In today’s world where modern looks are the new hot design trend, the beauty that is contained in the past is no longer desirable. It is hard to stay relevant when your main business comes from restoration projects. That is the barrier that San Francisco Local Color Painting, winner of the 2015 ‘KILZ Picture it Painted Professionally Award for Residential Restoration – Exterior’, has to overcome with each passing day.
“I’m noticing that there is a trend in San Francisco that is not favorable to Victorians,” says Bruce Nelson, founder and owner of San Francisco Local Color Painting. “It’s a trend that we are a little worried about. All the ‘techies’ that have moved in are buying houses and stripping the interiors and making them look like Dwell Magazine pictures. It’s kind of disturbing to see since we were saving Victorians when I got in the business. There was a great renaissance that lasted until the past couple years.”
This new trend means a lot of restoration contractors in the area have gone out of business. With a record of PDCA Industry Awards spanning back to 1987, San Francisco Local Color Painting has kept going strong.
“We use the awards to let prospective clients know that they’re working with a company that is well regarded and recognized by the leading contractors association, PDCA, so there’s a lot of prestige in it,” says Bruce as he reflects on their impressive record. “The history of our company keeps us in the game while others go out of business. We’ve been given some great reviews on Yelp and Angie’s list that let customers know how much care we take with these beautiful Victorians, and the PDCA Industry Awards are a boost to that.”
San Francisco Local Color Painting has been a member of PDCA since the early 1980s. During that time they have attended conventions and soaked up the knowledge of other professional contractors like themselves. “I just appreciate having PDCA’s support and being involved with an organization that looks after painting contractors and fights for them,” says Bruce. “I have no regrets on being a long time member. It’s very prestigious.”
