The 2015 Painting and Decorating Awards Ceremony, also known as the Paint Ball, had some veteran award winners, but there were some first time winners as well. Dan Brady Painting and Wood Restoration won their first KILZ Picture it Painted Professionally (PIPP) Industry Award for Residential Exterior Restoration and he loves the benefits of winning a national industry award.
“It’s a great branding opportunity,” says owner, Dan Brady. “Local awards are great to get, but it really helps you stand out to be able to say that you are one of the best in the country. If you are trying to brand yourself as the expert in the community, a national award is one more arrow for your quiver for branding and setting yourself apart.”
Dan was inspired to submit his own project after attending past award ceremonies and seeing all the top-notch work.
“Two things I wanted to do after attending a show a few years back was to speak and to win an award. This year I won an award and I got a chance to speak, so I’m really happy. I always look up to the people that speak. It helped me realize that one can be as successful in the painting industry as any other industry. If you work it right, it allows you to retire financially free. Through the PDCA I have met people that helped me set up systems that have gotten me out of the hourglass of doing everything on my own. Seeing how they have set up their businesses really helps --- I don’t have to come up with the whole playbook on my own.”
Dan Brady Painting has been a PDCA Member since 2006, and Dan has been a big fan of the PDCA and its members since he joined. “They share information freely,” he says about the unique culture of PDCA Members. “Meeting people from across the country allows me to ask questions openly and PDCA Members are open with their answers. I always love going to the trade show. It’s probably one of my favorite parts. Seeing the new inventions and tools gives me a leg up on the competition. It’s stuff others won’t ever find out about or will take a long time to find out.”
Now that he’s accomplished his goals for 2014, Dan has new goals with PDCA for 2015.
“One of the big takeaways from the 2015 EXPO was that company culture is hugely important. Now that the economy has turned around there are a lot more opportunities for work. All the educational opportunities PDCA offers– production, marketing, sales, and operations – are the reasons people stay with PDCA. One of my goals for 2015 is to sit down and improve my company’s education and culture.”
